The costliest problem is the one nobody notices
A radio station runs for hours without an operator in front of the screen. That is why On Air Studio has a set of functions that are not as eye-catching as the player or the waveform, but are often more important for reliable operation: silence detection, system clock checking, auto-start, resuming broadcasting, backup and remote notifications.
Silence alarm
You enable the silence alarm in the settings and define how many seconds of silence must pass before it reacts.
This is not the same as silence trim within a song: trimming improves the transition between files, while the alarm monitors the programme output and warns you when it stays silent for longer than it should.
Clock check
The Scheduler and time announcements depend on the computer’s clock. That is why the application uses a network time server (SNTP) to measure how far the computer clock is off and reports the problem to the operator.
Auto-start and resuming after a restart
On Air Studio can start together with Windows and resume broadcasting after the computer restarts. Use these options thoughtfully, but they are important for stations that want automatic recovery after a planned or unexpected restart.
Backup
You set up automatic backup by choosing a folder and the number of days to keep copies, so that important working data does not exist only as a single copy on a single disk.
Phone notifications
The application sends operational notifications via ntfy and/or Telegram. ntfy works even without a user account, via a chosen topic, while Telegram uses a bot token and a chat ID. You also set how many minutes a stream problem must last before a warning is sent.
For the station owner, this means not having to sit next to the monitor to find out that the stream has gone down.
What you get
- a warning about prolonged silence;
- a check of the system clock’s accuracy;
- auto-start with Windows;
- the programme resumes after a restart;
- local backup of working data;
- phone notifications;
- a better chance of noticing a problem quickly.
Important: Air Safety functions reduce risk, but they do not replace a stable computer, a UPS, a good network and responsible server maintenance. For serious operation, at least one backup copy should be kept on another physical or network device.
