Ads, ad breaks and campaigns

Ad breaks with an intro element and a target duration, campaigns and a broadcast record: ads as part of a controlled programme, not files inserted by hand.

Commercial programming needs more control than an ordinary playlist

An ad is not just an audio file between two songs. In real work there are campaigns, multiple spots, scheduled slots, breaks, intro stings, target durations and the need to check afterwards what actually went to air. That is why On Air Studio keeps the ad logic separate from the ordinary music playlist.

Ad breaks

An ad break is an organised group of advertising or other commercial elements: it has a name, a list of items and an intro element, and it can also have a target duration and be filled automatically before airing. This makes a break a planned programme unit rather than a random collection of files.

Once a break is prepared, you use it in the schedule in a controlled way, instead of putting it together by hand every time just before it goes to air.

Ways of going to air

Depending on the situation, an ad or a break starts immediately, waits for the current song to end, or plays over the music with ducking — a controlled lowering of the programme level.

Campaigns

A dedicated campaign service means a spot is not just a file, but part of a campaign with its own data and life cycle. In practice, it is important to know whether an ad is still active and which breaks it belongs to.

Broadcast record

It is not enough that an ad was in the plan — you need to be able to check what was actually aired. Broadcast reports and a separate log of ad events record the start and end of the content, the element type, title, path and break details. For a station owner, this is the basis for verifying airplay and resolving disputes.

An everyday example

Instead of the operator searching for four spots at 12:28 and dropping them into the playlist, the break is already built and linked to the schedule. When its slot comes, the system knows which unit to use. And when a client later asks whether the spot was aired, a report is a far better basis than the operator’s memory.

What you get

  • Faster preparation. The break is put together in advance.
  • Fewer mistakes. Less manual insertion of individual files during live programming.
  • Clearer organisation. Campaigns and breaks are kept separate from ordinary music.
  • Duration control. The target duration is part of the break settings.
  • Proof of broadcast. Broadcast reports and events leave a trail of what was actually played.

The module is an operational tool: organising, scheduling, airing and recording advertising content. It is not a system for selling and invoicing advertising.

Yes. An ad break contains several items, an intro element and a target duration, and it goes to air immediately, after the current song or over the music with ducking. There are also campaigns and a broadcast record for verification. Ads and campaigns

Are there logs of what was aired?

Yes. Broadcast reports record the programme elements, while technical logs are used to diagnose how the application and the stream are running.
